The Tutorial; From Another Point of View
Sorry guys! It’s been way too long since my last tutorial, but now I’ll try to make it up to you!

Lately, I’ve been playing with this little idea of mine. How about making a pretty …. different (is that the correct word btw?) kind of tutorial?

You know, mostly when I make tutorials, I focus on a topic and go into the details about that specific topic. You get to see the kite, the pilot and the input and I talk you through what’s going on. Yeah, the most common way to present a tutorial I guess.

But how about doing it differently?

OK, here are my thoughts. What if I go to the field and fly. Doing different stuff, straight lines, arcs, dives, geometrical figures, clockwork, toss in an axel or two, or three, maybe pulling off a flic flac, yeah, you know, just go with the flow.

…and…

Film the lot using two cameras! One filming the kite and the other filming the pilot. And when editing using the screen-in-screen mode so that you simultaneously can see both the kite and the pilot (input) kind of upfront?!

When such a tutorial is uploaded to YouTube you can check out all the details; what does it take from the pilot to make the kite do the different stuff. You can focus on parts of the video containing the stuff you want to take a closer look at. You can also play the video at a lower speed if things are going too fast, and you can even freeze the frame to really dig in deep.

You know, kind of what Carl Robertshaw is doing in his latest video, but having the kite in view as well!

So, what do you think? Should I go for it? What are your thoughts? Please drop a line or two in the comments field below and let me know your opinions!

Oh, and by the way, I will continue to create the more traditional tutorials of mine too!

    1. I’m planning to do some filming today!

Hopefully, it will come out good enough to be published on AERIALIS Kites’ YouTube channel.

      Stay tuned! 🙂

  1. I’d like to see this input/response view as well You wouldn’t happen to own a Fulcrum and have mastered some of Carl’s techniques? ?

    1. Hi Michael!

I’m just back from the beach, flying and filming with the dual-camera setup. After a quick snack, I’ll check out and edit the footage. I hope I got the camera positions and angles right! 😉

…and I’m sorry, no. I don’t have a Fulcrum … yet. The closest I get to one right now is at my computer/phone. 😉
