When the AERIALIS Team Flyers decided to fly Nirvanas from French manufacturer R-Sky back in 2004, we got the whole package. The Nirvana WW (Without Wind) for no- or very light winds, the Nirvana LW (Light Wind) for light winds, the Nirvana Standard for medium winds and the Nirvana HW (High Wind) for, yeah, right, high winds.

The LW is probably my all time favourite dual lined sportkite, but when you go to Denmark for the Nordic Kite Meetings, you are often faced with (really) strong winds. And in addition to the meshed panels, we also put ‘diapers’ in the kite’s to slow them down. It works pretty well up to a certain wind speed, but when the wind is going above that speed, things get difficult.

So to remedy this, Anders decided to see if it was possible to tweak that HW and add more vents for those days when the wind goes ballistic!

For this year’s NKM he had built five awesome looking Kites with a LOT of mesh so that we could keep on flying no matter the wind speed.

But due to the VERY turbulent winds at the NKM this year, we never got to fly these SVHWKs in Denmark. Sas actually, but there was nothing we could do about it …until now!

I’ve been waiting for a day with consistent wind speed over 10 meters per second, and last Friday, the local wind measurements told me the conditions were just about perfect for the first test flight of the SVHWK!

Perfect conditions for the SVHWK!

So I put the kite into my car, grabbed a pair of flying lines, straps and a couple of ground stakes and soon I was ready for the SVHWK!

And this is how it all went and also a quick run through of my first impressions of the kite!
