…it sure was still windy!
I was quite concerned if it was possible to fly down on the beach because at my house, the wind was howling and it’s usually a bit stronger at the water. But the wind was supposed to ease during the day, so I grabbed the Staaker drone and th To-Go-QLK-Bag and drove off to the beach.
I parked the car sheltered from some trees but looking up at the branches I could clearly see the signs of strong winds. The tree trunks were swaying and the branches danced around up there. No drone it seemed, but how about really vented kite? It was worth a try so I started to walk towards the beach. And when I stepped out of the wind shadow I was literally blown away!
I got to the beach and I estimated the wind speed at about 10-15m/sec (23-34mph) so I decided to leave the drone in the bag. Then I faced another challenge too, the high tide, the really high tide!
Because normally, the beach is about 15 meters or so deep. Today it was more like 0 to a couple of meters with waves hitting all over. Even the little jetty I use to fly from was totally submerged by the raging sea.
After some time considering the conditions, I decided to at least fly a triple vented quad kite and if you wanna know the rest of the story, it’s all there in the video below!
