That was what happened a few days ago and resulted in a broken leading edge (LE). No big deal, because when you’re equipped with spare parts, this is easy to fix. …and why not write a blog post about it?!
OK, all you need is the following:
- A new rod, in my case a Skyshark P200
- An inner ferrule
- Super glue (cyanoacrylat)
- Optional: a piece of electrical tape
So equipped with most of the above I was ready for a quick field repair.
The remedy, Skyshark P200 OK, let’s get started Gently pull out the broken leading edge rod Now you should have the broken LE rod, the new one and a ferrule …and a bottle of cyanoacrylat will also come in handy Put cyanoacrylat onto the half of the (inner) ferrule… …and insert it half way into the LE rod… Let dry for a couple of minutes Then insert the LE rod into the LE pocket… ..and you’re done!
Now, that’s all there’s to it. No big deal!
But what about the electrical tape you might ask? Well, you don’t have to use it, but if you like you put on a couple of rounds of tape so the edge of the tape is half way down the ferrule. Put cyanoacrylat onto the ferrule and insert it into the LE rod until it it’s stopped by the tape.
Use the tape as a guide if you like, but – like in my case – I didn’t use it.
