…leaving behind countless memories, great friendships, and more spectacular kite flying than anyone could ask for. But if you think that means my kite bag has been packed away until next year… think again.
No, I don’t get the opportunity to fly every single day. Life has a habit of getting in the way. But every now and then, everything falls perfectly into place.
Last weekend was one of those rare, perfect days.
The sun was shining, the temperature hovered around a comfortable 20°C (68°F), and a steady breeze rolled in from the fjord. The beach was buzzing with people enjoying the beautiful weather, yet there was still plenty of room in my favorite corner of the sand.
The perfect place to launch a triple-vented quad-line kite.
During the week in Denmark, nearly 98% of my flying time was devoted to team flying and dual-line kites. Quad-line sessions were few and far between.
Fortunately, muscle memory is a wonderful thing.
Within moments, the kite and I seemed to pick up exactly where we had left off. Every input felt familiar. The kite floated, carved, hovered, and danced across the sky almost exactly as I asked it to. That special feeling—the quiet conversation between pilot and kite—was still there.
And honestly…
Standing barefoot in the warm sand… occasionally wandering into the cool water… while a handful of kitesurfers carved elegant lines across the fjord behind me…
It doesn’t get much better than that.
For two or three glorious hours, everything else simply disappeared. There was only the wind, the kite, and the endless blue sky.
Moments like these remind me why I fell in love with quad-line flying in the first place.
The festivals may be over.
The season certainly isn’t.
