The trip to Denmark was cancelled because of the Covid-19 restrictions. So rather than fly abroad, I fly at home!

…and make some tutorials! That was my main focus the other day. To go out to the field, shoot some footage for the Down-turn tutorial and have fun!

I used my Sony HDR-PJ410 video camera for shooting the video rather than my phone this time. The reason? Well, then I can use Spotify on my phone and fly to music while still filming!

I started out pulling the standard A-quad out of the bag, attached it to the lines and started flying. However, it didn’t take long until I found the wind a tad too strong for the standard so I switched to the semi vented one. A much better choice for the smooth breeze coming in from the water.

So I did all the filming required for the tutorial but there was still time to fly some more. The wind spoiled me with close to perfect conditions so why head home now?

Not quite flying at the NKM but pretty darn close nevertheless!

Smooth winds beg for super low inverted slides all across the wind window and you see a few of those in the video below. Some solid figures of eight too. Towards the end I’m practising a ‘pattern’ I think looks awesome when you nail it. Mine is far from perfect, but they’re slowly getting there.

It probably has a name – which I don’t know of – but it’s a kind of travel from one side of the wind window to the other. On its journey, the kite pivots around a wingtip alternating LE up and LE down.

Well… Rather than try to explain, why not check out the video. What I’m trying to explain you’ll find at 4:59 into the video.

And if you know what this manoeuvre is called, please drop me a line in the comments form below!
