I was granted an hour or so to go flying and I definitely didn’t want rain! I wanted it to be dry, for obvious reasons, right?! The rain had been on and off all day, but for the last hour or so, it had stayed dry. But with these low hanging dark clouds, I was reminded that it could start raining any minute.
The winds came from an easterly direction. That’s not my favourite wind directions up here in my neck of the woods, but I had a plan where to go. A location I’ve found using Google Maps and I’d never been flying there before. According to the map, there was this jetty sticking out into the water looking interesting. And according to the weather forecast, the wind should hit it perfectly. Now, if the rain could just stay away.
I got to the location and headed over to the jetty to check it out. Yes, definitely flyable and the wind hit it just like forecasted. I got back to the car and grabbed a couple of kites that would be good for the current conditions, a set of 10m flying lines, a tripod with the GoPro camera and a couple of ground stakes hooked on to my belt. I was ready for action!
Of course; when I got it all set up and was ready to fly the rain started! Thankfully, a drizzle only, but I feared that the wind was going to drop. It usually does when the rain starts. Gotta start flying to squeeze the most out of it.
And I was right. The wind did drop as the rain increased, but I managed to get some decent flying out of it after all! Just check it out in the video below!
