The Perfect Wind Beyond the Beach
Sometimes the best kite flying locations are the ones you discover by accident. Follow a walk along the shoreline to a hidden rocky outcrop and a secret sandy beach with perfect onshore wind.

Some of the best kite-flying sessions are never planned. They begin with nothing more than curiosity and the willingness to explore what lies just beyond the obvious.

As I arrived at the beach, I found myself standing still for a few moments, simply looking out across the sea. The waves rolled gently toward the shore while the surrounding landscape seemed to invite a closer look. Instead of rushing to unpack my kite, I let my eyes wander along the coastline.

That was when I noticed it.

A rocky outcrop sat a few hundred meters south of the main beach, stretching into the sea. From where I stood, it looked promising. With the wind blowing steadily in from the open water, I couldn’t help thinking that it might be an incredible place to fly. I imagined standing on the smooth rocks while a kite danced gracefully above the coastline.

There was only one way to find out.

I walked along the water’s edge toward the rocks, enjoying the peaceful sound of the waves with every step. Just a few minutes later, I reached the spot—and my first impression had been absolutely right.

The sea breeze flowed cleanly onto the rocky platform, creating a smooth, steady wind that seemed almost tailor-made for kite flying. The wind wrapped itself around the rocks before continuing inland, providing ideal conditions for keeping a kite floating effortlessly overhead.

But the surprise didn’t end there.

As I explored the far side of the rocky outcrop, I discovered something completely unexpected: a tiny, sheltered sandy beach hidden away from the main shoreline. It felt like finding a secret corner of the coast that few people ever notice.

Suddenly I had two perfect flying locations within just a few steps of each other.

I could choose the dramatic setting of the sun-warmed rocks, letting my kite dance above the crashing waves, or enjoy the softer atmosphere of the little beach with sand beneath my feet and the same beautiful sea breeze filling the sail.

Of course, there was only one sensible decision.

I flew from both.

The rocky outcrop offered spectacular views and an unforgettable feeling of flying directly above the sea, while the small hidden beach provided a quieter, more intimate flying experience. Each location had its own character, yet both shared the same perfect coastal wind.

Days like this are a reminder that some of the finest kite-flying spots are not marked on maps or listed in travel guides. Sometimes they reveal themselves only to those who take a few extra minutes to walk a little farther, look a little closer, and trust their instincts.

Every coastline has its hidden treasures.

Sometimes, all it takes is following the wind.
