I woke up in the morning and found that the weather forecast was spot on. Sunny and blue skies, temperatures just a tad below freezing and a light breeze coming in from the north. AKA perfect for kiting! ?
The weather forecast also stated that the wind was going to pick up a little during the day, so I better hurry up to have light enough winds for the first flight of my brand new A-Quad Diamond Ghost! So I finished most of the domestic duties, jumped into the kite mobile and headed for the beach.
When I got there I checked the wind. It was clocking it at about 2m/sec (4.5mph). Now that should be fine for the Ghost and hopefully, the wind wouldn’t pick up just yet.
I got the kite set up and took a good look at it. Wow! “Ghost” is surely a proper name for this kite. It’s all white except for a yellow ‘diamond’ in the centre of the sail. (This diamond ‘changes’ colour depending on each member of the AERIALIS Team Flyers.) The sail is made of an Icarex-kind-of fabric weighing in at a mere 21g per square meter. That’s 10g less than the more traditional Icarex PC31.
After a couple of bridle tweaks, the Ghost flew the way I wanted and it was time to fire up the camera!
The weather forecast was still spot on, so after half an hour or so with the Ghost, it was about time to put it down and go for another kite with a higher upper wind range, because the wind did really pick up. It didn’t take long until the wind broke the 7m/sec (16mph) mark and demanded more mesh!
It was time to haul another A-Quad out of its bag. This time it was the A-Quad Hardcore, a kite that should take the 7-8m/sec pretty well.
And it sure did. It’s so fun to fly this kite and like you can see in the video below, I’m almost always wearing that big grin on my face when I fly it.
‘Nuff sid. Let’s get funky and play the video!
