I Haven’t Done This in Almost Two Years!
What a perfect day for flying a kite! The sun was shining, the wind rolled in fresh off the water, and even though the breeze was lively.

…and the air! The air was warm—about 25°C. A rare combination that just begged for kite flying.

Despite a small mishap earlier in the day (let’s call it a minor back tweak), I knew one thing for sure: I had to go flying today.

I had already prepared everything. Gear? Packed. Weather forecast? Checked for optimal wind conditions. Location? Picked out in advance via Google Maps. All systems go.

So, with a slightly stiff back, I eased myself into the car seat, hit the start button, and off I went. About half an hour later, I pulled into the parking area at Husebystranda in Råde. From there, it was a short hike through the woods and along the shore to my launch spot: Svartskjær.

When I arrived at Svartskjær, the landscape opened up beautifully, and a steady breeze flowed in straight off the fjord. It was clean, consistent, and just perfect for some Kite Aerial Videography (KAV).

I set up my little HQ right there on the rocks. First, I found a big stone to act as my kite anchor and tied a solid rope around it. Then came the line and the kite—a Peter Lynn Pilot, a soft foil kite with no spars, held in shape purely by the wind.

To keep things stable, I attached a 100-foot tubular tail. It needs a bit of wind to work, but wow, does it make the kite rock-solid once it’s airborne!

With the kite soaring steadily, it was time to rig up the KAP gear. I mounted the GoPro, clipped everything onto the line, and sent the whole thing skyward.

Once the rig was hovering—pretty steadily—about 10–12 meters up, I connected my phone to the GoPro to monitor the footage live. And just like that, I was in the air. Well, not me—but you get the point.

…But enough talk.

It’s probably better if I let the video below take over from here and show you what an incredible day it was—on the beach, with a kite, and a camera in the sky.

And even though it’s been almost two years since my last Kite Aerial Videography session, I definitely haven’t forgotten how to do it!
