The wind was around 4-6m/sec and that little island out there in the fjord was the source for the turbulence. I let out about 20 meters of line and anchored it to the … ground.
I pulled the luggage scale out of the bag and larks headed it to the line about six, seven meters from the anchor. Then I grabbed the scale and pulled it gently towards the ground and checked the display. It displayed 3,4kg. I repeated the process several times and the scale read between 3,0 to 3,6kg.
According to my calculations, the kite must pull at least 1,5kg for keeping the KAP-gear aloft. Now the kite was pulling roughly twice that number thus allowing for some quality KAP-ing!
I didn’t measure the pull when letting out more line, but it felt like the kite pulled a little less. And it should do, because of the increased drag and weight of the line.
Anyway, the conclusion must be that the luggage scale did work and will probably take away some of the guesswork for selecting the right lifter and line for the KAP session!
