Even inland the wind was significant, and when you get yourself out to the water it’s usually even more. Saturday was no exception. When I got to the beach, the wind was howling, the waves high on the beach and the sand was blowing in the air!
It was also high tide, very high, and the high tide combined with the waves that washed way up on the beach, made for a narrow flying space. It seemed like I was getting my feet wet! No worries though. The water temperature was about +22C, +23C so it was rather nice to fly barefooted in the splashing waves.
I could have chosen the A-Quad Hardcore given the current wind conditions, but I reckoned it would be at the edge, so all things considered, I opted for the A-Quad Storm instead. It proved a good choice and the flying was excellent!
You know, a heavy-vented kite such as the A-Quad Storm feels a little different to fly compared to kites with less venting. Pumping the kite won’t lead to anything, the wind goes straight through the kite, so it’s all up to the angle of attack. Pull those thumbs back and the kite will fly forward. Pump it, and nothing much will happen. So after a few minutes, I had altered my flying style somewhat. I was in Storm Mode!
