Yesterday was a great day to being outdoor … and fly kites! The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the wind was blowing and the temperature hovered up there at about +20°C. I even had the day off with loads of time for flying. It doesn’t get better than that!
I carried a lot of kites and gear on my back for my little “expedition”. A bunch of Quads, a handful of SLKs, lines, handles, my brand new line reel and my video gear. So I was heavily loaded when walking from the car towards the coastline. Ready for everything!
I found myself a nice little jetty exposed to the northern winds coming in from the water. A pretty good place to fly a single lined kite lifting my KAP-rig and the camera. However, a few kite-eating trees grew a little closer to that jetty than I remembered. Well, better have that in mind when letting out the line.
Better get started. And I did film myself setting up all of my KAP gear. You know, assembling the Rokkaku and getting it up there, fixing the carabiner hooks (for the KAP-rig) to the flying line, hooking up the KAP-rig, mounting the camera and get the kite up there.
It wasn’t until I got home and had a closer look at the footage I realised that this could be edited into a kind of tutorial. You know, how to set up for a KAP-session!
Unfortunately, when I got it all up there, the kite wasn’t as stable as I thought it would be. It could be some slight changes in the wind, that I didn’t fly the kite high enough or not enough line between the kite and the KAP-rig. For whatever reason, the footage came out a bit too wobbly to my likings, so I decided to include screenshots in my edited video rather than those shaky video shots.
Anyway, here it is and I really hope you like it!
