Anders has hatched a completely new routine for AERIALIS Team Flyers for 2024!
Once again, the whole gang is heading to the Nordic Kite Meeting in Blokhus in May. Here, the team will also perform at the Blokhus Wind Festival and showcase demo flights on both Saturday and Sunday (May 18th and 19th) on the beach in Blokhus, in front of hopefully thousands of spectators!
And this year, we’re stepping it up a notch or two!
Anders has set the bar higher with this new routine. Some of it is based on familiar elements, i.e., figures and patterns we have flown before. However, there are also many new and exciting things to challenge ourselves with. Not necessarily easy, but certainly achievable with both individual preparation and training together.
So, this weekend, I started with the individual preparations. Anders has created an animated version of the routine. A stop-motion piece where it becomes much easier to grasp both the major moves and the small but crucial details.
I’ve downloaded the animation to my mobile and have already watched it many times, and slowly but surely, things are starting to stick in my old brain. It becomes – at least for me – much easier to understand the routine when visualized in this way. It also becomes easier to define elements where I am unsure about the execution and thus ask the right questions.
Based on the animation, I also define the commands I should give while we fly. In AERIALIS Team Flyers, we’ve done it so that we’ve named the various elements we’re going to fly, and I continuously call out which elements we’re flying while Captain Anders gives the various action commands. Perhaps a bit unorthodox, but it works for us!
So, it’s just a matter of pulling out the mobile and playing the animation enough times for it to stick in the head. Hopefully, it will also stay when we meet and take to the skies!
