In the last year or so I’ve spent quite a bit of money repairing the good but old kite mobile. So the last time I threw a huge pile of cash after it and cleared it at the MOT for another two years, I made a decision. I don’t want to spend more money on this car, other than routine maintenance.
So when the rear axle broke, it was time to let it go and look for a replacement.
It has served me and my family well though during the seven years of ownership. It has hauled my kites and …stuff wide and about and pulled my horse trailer around the country. But now it was finally time to call it a day.
So while staying at home with covid, I started to look for a replacement. I had my specifications, the new car had to be able to pull heavy horse trailers and haul a huge pile of kites. 4WD definitely and most of that usual stuff we’ve all become accustomed to.
So I trawled the online used cars adds and came up with a handful of useful alternatives. After some time on the phone with the sellers, I had narrowed it all down to two different cars. One Ssangyong Rodius, pretty much just like the one that just broke down, and another Ssangyong, but this time a Rexton, a more SUV 4WD kind of car.
I first went to check out the Rodius, but there were a couple of issues with it that I didn’t like.
The Rexton on the other hand was more like it. Overall in pretty good shape and at a reasonable price. I took it for a test drive and everything felt pretty good. So… I made up my mind and replaced my old kite mobile with this one!
I drove it home and the next day I pulled my horse trailer some 350 kilometers with it … and it felt fine. I guess this Rexton will serve us well for a few more years and it definitely won’t get stuck in the sand at Blokhus with its 4WD low!
