I wanted to go to another one of my flying spots. This time to the western coast of the island of Jeløy. I do a lot of flying at this location, But I’ve never flown an SLK there nor KAP’ing. But there’s a first for everything!
…and it was windy!
Wind speed averaging close to 11m/sec (24mph) with gusts up to almost 15! (34mph).
I was a bit concerned sending my video camera up there, but after some tweaking of both bridle and the bow of the Rokkaku I thought things were good enough to give it a go.
The Rok pulled like a train and lifting the rig was no problem whatsoever. The rig itself unfortunately suffered from the heavy winds so the video came out pretty wobbly. The photos however were good and here are a few examples!
This time I used my phone as a remote control for the video camera by connecting the two using WiFi. This way I can transfer the video camera view to my phone and select what mode I want to use; video or photo.
This worked perfectly as long as the phone was within the camera’s WiFi range. So this was a nice feature!
A few lessons learned the hard way though. ?
- Wear gloves!!!
- Use a thicker line (especially in higher winds)!
- Cheap pulleys crack easily!
- Need to find an easier way of securing the flying line!
- Need a find another kite for lifter in high winds!
Stay tuned for more KAP stuff!
