A couple of years ago I got this idea. Is it possible to fly a traditional Japanese Rokkaku using four flying lines? I guess the best way to find out was to give it a go, and so I did!

It worked!

Yeah, I know… it didn’t fly as smoothly and controlled as a proper quad-lined kite, but it was possible! I could fly it forwards, backwards and sideways, I could hover it in the air and even fly it upside down. Big fun!

As always I’d brought my camera and shot a bunch of footage, put it all together in this little video that’s now trending on YouTube (3412 views as of March 23rd 2024).

So inspired by this I got another idea. How about trying the same using a dual-lined sportkite? You know, flying it using four flying lines? Is that even close to possible?

So a few days ago I brought a somewhat modified WSO to the beach along with a couple of quad kite flying line sets. In these videos below you can check out how it all went!
