Back in May 2019, which is five years ago now, I bought a small and simple tripod designed for lightweight cameras, like a GoPro or a mobile phone. The tripod was from the brand Rollei and worked perfectly for its purpose: setting up the phone to film … mostly myself and the occasional kite.
It even came with a Bluetooth-controlled remote, so I could connect my phone and use the remote to start and stop recordings. A brilliant feature that I’ve used a lot.
But after five years of heavy use out in the elements, the tripod is starting to show its age. Yes, it’s getting worn out. Water, sand, and wind have taken their toll, and rust has started to appear on the legs. It has also toppled over a few times, and occasionally the legs got dented. This means I can no longer extend any of the three legs to their full length. That’s obviously a bit of a downside.
It has definitely served its purpose, but as I mentioned, it’s starting to wear out. So, since spring, I’ve been on the lookout for a new tripod … without spending too much money, and the other day, I stumbled upon one that looked just fine.
It originally cost around 1.260 NOK (120 USD), but it was on sale. A whole 70% off, and now it was up for grabs for 345 NOK (33 USD)!
Yes, we’re talking about Temu, so the quality might be a bit sketchy. But if it holds up for my needs, I’ll have gotten a decent tripod for a cheap price, and if it’s a piece of crap, well, I haven’t wasted tons of money.
Right now, it’s on a plane heading towards Norway, and hopefully, it’ll be with me by the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
I’ll keep you posted!
