In the morning the sun was out but after some hours, the clouds drifted in from the south and covered the sky. The wind though was great and coming in from a south-by-south-easterly direction at about 5 to 7 meters per second. Probably the optimum for kite aerial photography. More than enough to lift the rig but not so much it becomes a struggle.

I’ve also been looking for new places to fly using Google Maps and after some studying, I found a place, a beach – Storesand – some twenty-five minutes by car away from the Villa AERIALIS. So I ensured I had all the required equipment in the car and headed off!

Finally, I got to the parking just a few hundred meters from the beach, so it was time to get the stuff out of the car and start walking the rest of the way. Soon I got down to the beach and it lived up to its name! Storesand means “The Big Sandy” in English, and maybe it’s not the biggest beach I’ve ever been to, but sandy it was!

So I walked up to the end of the beach and found myself a nice place sheltered from the wind and soon I was setting up for flying the smaller of my Power Sleds. I’ve got two of them Power Sleds by Premier Kites. One large Power Sled, the 36 and its little brother, the 24. I had a feeling the smooth, onshore wind was a tad too much for the 36 so I opted for the 24 version, which soon was flying pretty stable up there.

Definitely more stable than I’d expected. So I just had it up there, about 30 meters or so just watching it fly, and it sure was no need for adding anything for stability. The kite stayed up there keeping that pretty sharp angle towards the ground. Now that’s perfect for kite aerial photography and even better for videography!

So after having watched the kite for half an hour or so, I decided to capture some aerial video using the YI gimbal and the GoPro Hero 7 Black, a really nice combo for KAV. It didn’t take long until the rig was high up there and I could see what the camera was capturing on the screen of my phone. Now that Quick app for GoPro comes in pretty handy for that!

I was walking up and down the beach filming and then I found an interesting motive to capture from above….

I played around with this motive for quite some time and managed to shoot a lot of interesting photos using my KAP setup. And of course, I shot my fair share of footage too that is edited down and you can watch that video down below! I really hope you’ll enjoy watching the video as much as I did creating it! 🤩
