Whoever of the associated members happens to be around just team up and do some flying. When all members are present we fit Anders, Kjetil, Farid, Søren, Mirjam, Niels and Yours Truly into that line of people flying our socks off. However, it’s been a while since all of us could do some flying together.
Like last weekend, that one in Gothenburg, Sweden. Rather than being all seven of us flying together, I had the pleasure of flying with Anders and Kjetil, and that’s never wrong.
And like said, this is one of the advantages to the team. Whoever is present, well, we just fly and do stuff together!
Crap winds
The location of the field at Fiskebäck, just outside the city of Gothenburg allows for reasonably decent winds no matter the wind direction. Well, maybe not quite from the east. And guess what! That was the main wind direction for the whole weekend. The strong wind, averaging at 8-10 m/sec and gusts up to 13-15 m/sec, made for some really challenging flying conditions.
Down close to the ground it could drop to almost nothing and then within the next split second, whilst climbing the wind window, a sudden gust could skyrocket the kite up there while almost pulling you out of your socks.
Unfortunately, we didn’t bring our Super Ultra Light Mega Vented Low Wind Storm Wind kites, so the Nirvana High Winds and the A-Quad Hardcores had to do the job.
And they did pretty well. We opted for a lot of ventilation and some struggling when the wind dropped rather than having any other kite blown into shreds by the heavy gusts.
Despite the difficult conditions we did manage to put in some quality flying from time to time and here’s the video to prove it!
