I paid close attention to the weather forecast all week long leading up to the weekend fingers crossed for good winds and weather for flying. And it looked promising. Winds from the north by northeast coming in at 6 – 8 m/sec and sunny. Who could ask for more?!

I also played around with Google Maps and looked for a nice place to fly given the forecasted wind direction. Suddenly I came upon this lovely place called Hestholmen, a mere 30 minutes drive from the Villa AERIALIS.

Come Sunday, the weather forecast was spot on. Sunny, winds from the north and very warm for a day in mid-September. The mercury almost hit 20°C and absolutely lovely conditions for flying.

I had already decided to bring my KAP-gear and shoot some aerial photos, video, and three kites to choose from: the Peter Lynn Lifter Kite and the 2.4 and 3.6 Power Sleds.

So I jumped into my car and hit the road heading for Hestholmen. Due to private roads the last bit I had to park the car and walk the last bit. And according to the map, I could head north from the parking until I got to the water and then follow the coastline a couple of hundred meters to the west.

But that was easier said than done. I soon lost the path and had to conquer several obstacles that included quite a bit of climbing, crossing through some really “bushy” terrain, wading through a couple of marshes, another climb and some more wading but finally I got to the destination.

And wow! It was sure worth the effort of carrying all my gear through the terrain. Hestholmen, what a wonderful place to fly! Absolutely awesome with its beautiful scenery and that stable breeze coming in from the north!

I soon had the Peter Lynn Lifter and the smaller Power Sled up flying and after some observation of the two kites, it seemed the Peter Lynn Lifter was the most stable of the two and the kite I’d use for my lifter of the day.

So what more is there to say…?

Not much actually so let’s check out the video!

A wonderful Sunday flying at Hestholmen!

While I was there I got to talk with a couple of locals that told me the easy way to access this beautiful place by the water. Rather than climbing and wading for 30 minutes I could walk the path (!) and shave at least 20 minutes off the walk!
