Judging from the weather forecast, the next week I won’t be doing much kite flying. But I do welcome the rain a lot! We’ve been having a very dry summer and fall this far and we’re seeing signs of not so good things happening because of this … drought (?). Like some places almost running out of water, farmers having a difficult time both in the fields and having trouble watering their animals, fear of forest fires and the price of electricity skyrocketing. Hopefully, the next days will start to remedy this!

So based on this information I was more than happy to spend several hours on the beach yesterday. No rain, sunny and warm and – at least for the first hours – a nice breeze coming in from the water. So what’s better than go fly a kite or six?!

I had a bunch of Rokkakus sitting in the back of my car and carried them all over my shoulder for the ten minutes walk from the parking down to the beach at Gullholmsundet where I do quite a bit of my flying. I was hoping to fly them all!

When I got to the beach the conditions for flying was perfect. Just like forecasted there was this nice and onshore breeze clocking in at about 4m/sec (9mhp). The tide was high making the beach quite narrow, but today that was no problem. I could fix the Rokkakus to the fence posts a little away from the water.

So I dumped all my gear on the ground and started to do whatever was necessary to get all the kites up there. I must admit though that not all my rok’s got airtime. I managed to get six of them up there before the wind died down and not giving enough lift to fly anymore. There were two left in their bags on the ground but hey! Six rokkakus look pretty good up there!
