I have a sandbox site installed on my webserver that I can play around with. It’s far from an identical installation of the AERIALIS Kites website, but more than enough to play around with and hopefully reveal any pitfalls before taking the step of upgrading a live site!
So before I upgrade the WordPress core from version 5.5.3 to 5.6 I’ll play around with some stuff in the sandbox site of mine. You know, upgrading all the plugins, themes, translations and whatnots. Pull and yank the various plugins, see if Elementor still works, add some posts, update a few pages, delete some comments, do some vital maintenance and see what happens.
And perhaps the most important thing, wait for a little for others to do the upgrade and learn from their experience!
If there are several (vital) issues reported, I might create an exact copy of the AERIALIS Kites site – a staging site – to play with before applying the vital WordPress upgrade to the live site.
Anyway, I’ll do my best to avoid the pitfals and hopefully you won’t notice the upgrade at all. Let’s cross our fingers for that!

Quick update…
I’ve launched a staging site so I really can pull and yank my site a bit without messing up the live site.
So far I’ve not come across any severe glitches. However I’ll hold the WordPress upgrade until the Elementor (pagebuilder) has come up with a patch they will take care of a couple of somewhat annoying details.
I’ll get beck to you when things are about to settle. ?
…and just for the record. This website is now updated and running on WordPress 5.6 🙂
