So I drove to the beach and, yes, the wind was onshore, somewhat bumpy and averaging 10-11m/sec (23-25mph). Perfect conditions to see if this bugger will fly!

Windy... Perfect!
Windy… Perfect!

So after some fiddling, I had the kite assembled and attached to the 10m (30ft) lineset with the handles staked to the ground. I immediately spotted a couple of too long bridle legs which I took care of before launch.

Is that a kite?
Is that a kite?

…and YES?, the kite took off and … flew!

I did a bit of bridle tuning – tons of brake by the way – and after a while the kite felt kind of comfortable and controllable up there in the blasting winds!

Does it fly like a normal quad?

No, not quite so. But more than good enough to have fun in the storm!

…and I have a few ideas on how to improve the flying characteristics, that I will share in due time. One of those tweaks I hope will make it possible to hover the kite in an inversed position.

Here’s a quick video from the initial flight!

This actually works! ??

So stay tuned for more updates when the storm hits again!
