There is not much more satisfactory than to see the kite you just build fly like you hoped.

So when I got the chance to go to the field late this evening just before the sun dipped down below the horizon, I went to one of the local beaches for the initial flight. The beach is oriented to the north and when I arrived there was a very light breeze coming in from the sea. Would it be sufficient?

Well, only one way to find out. So I assembled the kite and adjusted the bridle to what I’d thought could be flyable. It was close and after a quick adjustment, the angle of attack felt right. I let out ten meters or so of line and gave it a go. The kite soared slowly upwards, but I had to walk backwards while slowly letting out more line hoping the kite would ascend higher and find some more wind.

After having let out about 50 meters of the line the kite was high enough to ride a somewhat stronger breeze up there and soon it was pinned to the sky, rock solid, dead stable!

Wow! What a feeling! Everything worked exactly as I’d hoped. The bright orange Rok flew just like a Rok is supposed to!
