A Week Where the Nordic Kite Community Meets the Wind

In 2026, the 27th Nordic Kite Meeting once again gathered pilots, enthusiasts, and curious visitors for a full week of flying, learning, and celebrating the wind.

Held from May 18th to May 24th, 2026, the event blended two traditions into one continuous experience: the relaxed, community-driven Nordic Kite Meeting during the week and the more public-facing Blokhus Wind Festival during the weekend.

A Nordic Tradition Since 1999

The Nordic Kite Meeting is not a typical kite festival. Instead of a strict competition or tightly scheduled program, it is fundamentally about coming together to fly, experiment, and share knowledge.

Since 1999, kite enthusiasts have gathered on the wide sandy beaches of northern Jutland to enjoy the freedom of the open sky and steady sea winds. Pilots bring everything from single-line show kites to dual-line stunt kites and quad-line precision kites, creating a constantly changing canvas of color above the beach.

The atmosphere is informal and welcoming. Beginners can ask for help, watch experienced flyers practice new tricks, or even join in for their first attempts at synchronized team flying.

Whether someone is trying to master an axel, experimenting with freestyle routines, or simply enjoying a quiet flight along the shoreline, the Nordic Kite Meeting offers space for all styles of flying.

A Week on the Beach

Throughout the week, the routine is simple: meet on the beach, launch kites, and enjoy the wind.

Pilots gradually arrive early in the week, and by midweek the beach is filled with kites and conversations. The days often include:

  • freestyle flying and trick practice
  • informal team training sessions
  • technical discussions about equipment and flying techniques
  • spontaneous group flights

For teams such as the AERIALIS Team Flyers, the meeting also serves as an opportunity to rehearse routines and refine choreography before public demonstrations later in the week.

The Weekend: Blokhus Wind Festival

By the weekend, the focus shifts from the kite community to the broader public. The Blokhus Wind Festival transforms the beach into a lively celebration of wind-powered activities.

During the festival, the sky fills with colorful kites of all shapes and sizes, while visitors can enjoy demonstrations, workshops, and interactive activities. Families, tourists, and residents gather along the beach to watch the performances and experience the joy of kite flying.

Team flying demonstrations take place regularly throughout the day, showcasing synchronized choreography where multiple pilots control their kites with precision and timing. These performances are often the highlight of the festival, drawing crowds as the kites dance across the sky.

The festival is designed to be accessible and family-friendly, encouraging visitors not only to watch but also to try flying a kite themselves.

A Sky Full of Color

Events like this turn the beach into something truly special. Against the backdrop of the North Sea, hundreds of kites paint the sky with movement and color.

Large display kites drift slowly above the crowd, while sport kites dart and spin closer to the ground. Quad-line teams perform graceful formations, their kites hovering, sliding sideways, or landing simultaneously in perfectly timed routines.

It is a spectacle that attracts thousands of visitors each year and has become one of the most recognizable wind events in the region. (blokhus.dk)

More Than a Festival

What makes the Nordic Kite Meeting unique is that it is not only about the public show. At its heart, it is about the community that returns year after year.

For many participants, the week is as much about reconnecting with fellow flyers as it is about flying itself. Old friendships are renewed, new pilots are welcomed, and the shared passion for wind and flight continues to grow.

The Nordic Kite Meeting proves that sometimes the best events are the simplest ones:
a beach, a steady wind, and a sky full of kites.
