+33°C in the shade, +25°C in the sea… and a barely-there 0.5 m/s breeze.
Oh, and the beer? A refreshing +4°C. Now that’s full-on summer
With the sun blazing from a nearly cloudless sky, it was one of those days when everyone heads to the beach. And I mean everyone.
Naturally, that leaves very little room for a kite nerd like me to set up and fly anything with lines longer than a shoelace.
But… I have a little secret.
I know of a stretch of beach where there’s rarely a crowd — a hidden gem only a few locals know about.
And with the very light draft coming in from the sea, it looked like the perfect spot for some ultra-light-wind flying.
When I got there, no people around! Yes, my secret beach lived up to it yet again!
But… Was there wind?
Hmm… maybe the slightest whisper coming off the water.
Maybe.
Still, I made my way down to the shoreline, already drenched in sweat.
I hesitated for a moment, then decided to give it a shot. After all, I had Zaephay with me — my homemade light-wind kite and today’s clear (and possibly only) favorite.
And believe it or not…
It flew!
Yes, it took a bit of groundwork to keep the sail pressured, and no, it wasn’t effortless.
But it was flying — floating, drifting, and dancing in the gentlest of breezes.
Of course, with the heat reaching its maximum, I had to take frequent hydration breaks.
Eventually, I was completely cooked… so I did what any sane person would do.
I ran straight into the sea!
What a day. What a beach. What a session.
Even with half a breath of wind — it was worth every sweaty second.
