After a couple of days helping my wife out in her booth at the ‘Rørosmartnan’, a market event taking place for the 170th time this year, I managed to squeeze an hour or so of flying!
In Røros they found copper way back in 1645 and soon the town flourished with the mining industry. An industry that lasted more than 300 years and almost in the middle of the town there are huge slag heaps. Some raging more than fifty meters above the ground. These heaps are made of slag from the copper mining and they still lay where they were placed several hundred years ago.
If you climb one of these heaps, you’re rewarded with a wonderful view of the medieval looking town center of Røros with its iconic church right in the middle of it.
That’s where I wanted to fly. Today started with dead calm winds but during the day it picked up a little, the sun came out and I decided that now was the right moment. So I grabbed my kitebag and started to climb the heaps and soon I’d found a really good place to fly with the most spectacular backdrops imaginable!
The inland wind was on the light side and off course somewhat fluctuating, but definitely flyable with my Zaephay quad kite.
I really hope you like this little video flying in epic surroundings!
