Nothing beats a proper Sunday session dedicated entirely to kite flying!

With the weekend rolling around, the weather decided to cooperate brilliantly—partly cloudy skies, mild conditions, and a smooth, gorgeous breeze pulling straight in from the open sea. Absolute perfection!

Once I arrived at Saltholmen, I slung my kite bag over my shoulder and headed straight for the southernmost point of the islet, where the wind hits just right. My trusty A-Quad Hardcore won the spot at the end of the flying lines, and within moments it was airborne, hovering about 10 meters downwind from me.

Of course, I brought the video gear along to document the session. My phone was locked onto a tripod, ready to capture the action from the ground. I experimented with a few different angles, but it quickly became obvious that a standard smartphone just couldn’t compete with my Insta360 Go 2 for this kind of setup.

Weighing in at a featherlight 27 grams, this tiny action camera can be mounted directly onto the kite itself. By placing a magnet on the back of the sail and the camera on the front with the lens pointing right back at me, you get some wildly unique raw footage. It is not every day you get to see the world from that perspective, but the visual effect is simply stunning!

When Things Go South (Into a Puddle)

I spent a fantastic couple of hours out at Saltholmen on Sunday, October 4th. But I have to share a little incident that spiced things up…

With the magnet-mounted camera locked onto the kite, I sent the whole rig straight into a power dive, capped off with an abrupt, hard stop. Let’s just say that sudden jolt proved to be a bit too much for the mounting setup. The camera shook loose, soared through the air, and came down with a loud SPLASH right into a small puddle of water.

It sank straight to the bottom, settling comfortably right on the mud with the lens pointed straight up toward the sky—and it kept right on filming!

Through water bubbles, grit, and ripples, it sat down there recording the kite as it continued to soar gracefully overhead. Naturally, you can catch that exact sequence in one of the videos below!
