Despite the wind dropping a little in the afternoon, I opted for the A-Quad Hardcore, because I really love the feel of that kite – and – it can still do some very impressive stuff even in its lower wind range. I was not to be let down!
First I brought the kite over to some rocks and looked for interesting video compositions. I had the sun in my face so we’re talking backlit stuff. I think it came out really, really cool! The dark, almost black silhouette of the rocks and the black and yellow A-quad above it. The colours of the kite really sparkling in the backlit conditions.
…and if you’re asking for a field for flying kites…? Nope, you don’t need one!
Then the wind decided to change its direction somewhat, and I decided to find a better place to fly in this ‘new’ wind. I walked over to this worn and weathered jetty and had myself some fun playing with the posts and axeled the kite all over the place!

Even if it was in the lower wind range of the A-quad Hardcore, a few of the axels were rising ones. If there would be somewhat more wind, would all axels turn into “elevators” or would you expect to be outside the wind range where axels are feasible on any quad?
Landing on something soda can-sized (like the top of the poles) with a wing tip is tricky, especially directly finding the distance to the pole. Sometimes I make a small grove in the sand/pebbles on the ground with my foot if I happen to be on a beach. In this way, once the distance to the surface has been found, one can quickly return to this point.

Good question! I (personally) think it’s a combination of several parameters, of which the wind is one of them. I also think there are other parameters like how (flat) you set up your kite before popping and the force of the pop itself. Where the kite is situated in the wind window might also be a concern. I’ll try to keep an eye on this the next time I’m out flying. ?

Seems like the question turned into a how to do rising axels question. I do want to know, but take your time your time until the conditions are right for you. You seem to do a lot of KAPing/KAVing now and besides the right wind range to do rising axels might not be available when needed. On my side there is no hurry. I’m currently more into low wind than high wind (i.a. investigating rear/front side magic sticks and its effect on axels, glides, positive and negative downspar chord line curvature when getting acquainted with my brand new low wind Andykites 4WD Feather and Indoor kites…).
