Just as the sun climbed over the horizon in the east, my rokkaku took to the air lifting the KAP-rig shooting the first rays of the golden light and the beach below.

In August I made a large Rokkaku for lifting my KAP-rig in lighter winds. Today opened for its maiden KAP flight. Yes, it has been up there before, but never carrying anything other than the flying line.

Today the wind was on the lighter side, I’d say about 3m/sec (6-7mph) and after some adjustment to the bow lines and the bridle I found the settings that allowed for a super steady kite. I let out about 30 or so meters of line before I hooked the KAP-rig to the line and let out yet another 40-50 meters.

The kite looked like a tiny pink dot on a clear blue backdrop having no problems lifting the camera and the rig. The GoPro app allows for a Bluetooth connection between the camera and the phone so you can see (on your phone’s screen) what’s being captured. There are also a few controls you can manipulate using the phone.

None required though, and in the video below you can see what one of my fave flying spots look like from a bit above the sea level!
